Independent Activities Tip 5 - Lego Table

Hey, lego my Lego! We’ve never been a Lego family...but now we are! It’s finally happened. My kids will spend up to 1-2 hours some days just creating their “Google Town.” Of course I felt like the winning parent when my 7-year-old daughter was so excited about her first creative non-kit build...A Beer Shop! WHAT?

If you need time on your own to get work done, remind them how awesome their Lego Table is. But, you need a table to be able to remind them of a table. So, here’s how you do it:

  1. Set up a folding table in a place where you don’t mind it being for a day, a week, a month...

  2. Pour their Legos on it

  3. Require that no Legos leave the table

  4. Print out one of those 30 day Lego challenge calendars and set it on the table and say, “Hey, if you want, try to see if you can do these!”

There you go. Done. Now, whenever you look up from your cooking or cleaning and see them gravitating toward the Lego table and start to sit down, ...you quickly tip-toe run to your bedroom, office, wherever you need to go, and get started on your nap, projects, work, etc. Those dishes can wait! This is your “me” time moment!
