Our kids love Mrs. Wordsmith, specifically her Storyteller's Word A Day flip book. As moms, we love it too for three reasons and share it in our new podcast shorts - Coop Faves. Check out one of our most favorite language arts products here.

What is it?

  • It’s a flip book that stands on your table!

  • Each page is a colorful word with a fun pictoral interpretation of the word with a back side with all the information you need to increase your child’s vocabulary.

  • Examples of a few words: Pungent, swagger, tempestuous, indulgent

  • Works for a range of children’s ages - age 4-12 especially

  • About $20-$30

3 Reasons Its Our Favorite

  1. Adds color to language - colorful words just brighten up conversation and writing while helping us to be more concise in our communication.

  2. Exposes kids to etymology - learn the history of words, Latin roots, and the percentage a word is used in stories.

  3. Our kids love it - they actually beg to do this activity! They love making up stories using these words and the book’s comical characters.

How We Use It

  1. It’s begins our “school” day (learning together) - it’s nice to start your day with a few 1 minutes items. This is a happy way to do that.

  2. Review previous words - with being a flip book, it’s easy to flip back to previous words for review. We like to review 5-10 words each time we learn a new one.

  3. Word bank for story writing - if your child’s writing needs some color, ask him to check out this flip book for previous words learn and integrate a few of them. It makes it easy to enhance one’s writing with this great reference book.

  4. Useful in word-based games like Taboo or Charades - sometimes the best words are Mrs. Wordsmith’s words!
