Easter is a wonderful time to gather with your homeschool co-op or a group of friends to celebrate faith, fun, and fellowship. Over the years, our co-op has enjoyed everything from traditional Easter egg hunts to creative activities like a fox hunt game and resurrection egg storytelling. In this post, we’ll share our favorite Easter group activities, unique ideas for older kids and teens, and ways to incorporate faith-based learning into your celebrations. Plus, we’ll link back to our previous Easter posts for even more inspiration for your family!
1. Resurrection Egg Hunt: A Faith-Based Easter Tradition
One of the first Easter co-op activities we did with our Coop Group was a Resurrection Egg Hunt. Instead of focusing on candy or toys, each egg contains an item that represents a part of the Easter story (like a small cross, a piece of cloth, or a rock). Kids take turns opening the eggs in order as we read the Easter story from the Bible or The Jesus Storybook Bible. (Read more in our Resurrection Eggs post.)
You can purchase a single resurrection egg kit for your family (this nesting egg version is super cute) or a bulk kit for your co-op!
2. Traditional Easter Egg Hunts
No Easter celebration is complete without an egg hunt! Our homeschool group has done both in-person and virtual Easter egg hunts, making it easy for everyone to participate. For the virtual hunt, each family hid eggs in their home according to clues that I provided in advance. Then, over Zoom, I’d deliver each clue and the kids would all run off to find their eggs. It was a great way to connect for Easter 2020 when we couldn't gather in person!
We highly recommend grabbing some pre-stuffed and non-candy Easter eggs for your hunt at home or outside with your co-op.
3. The Fox Hunt Game: A Fun Easter Twist
For a high-energy game, one super creative mom in our co-op created a Fox Hunt where older kids played the role of "chickens" with eggs glued to button-down shirts while the younger kids were "foxes" trying to snatch the eggs. It was an absolute hit and a great way to keep everyone active!
4. Easter Crafts for All Ages
Easter crafts are always a favorite among homeschoolers as they gather the children together for a shared experience. We’ve made paper plate tombs, cross-shaped sun catchers, collage eggs, and even decorated eggs with natural dyes. The kids love showing off their creations to each other and their moms when they are done.
5. An Easter Feast
Enjoying food together is a fun and delicious way to celebrate Easter. It doesn’t take too much prep to ask every guest to contribute a dish to share. My family loves making Bunny Cakes for our Easter feasts, which are carrot cake cookies with cream cheese frosting.
BONUS: Unique Easter Activities for Teens
Older kids and teens sometimes feel left out of traditional Easter activities, so we’ve added fun alternatives over the years, including:
Escape Room: The Empty Tomb Edition – Create a DIY escape room where teams solve puzzles leading to the discovery of the empty tomb.
Easter Story Drama – Have teens act out scenes from the Easter story and film a short play to share with friends and family.
Glow-in-the-Dark Egg Hunt – Hide eggs that glow for an exciting evening hunt.
Final Thoughts
Easter celebrations can be both meaningful and fun with your co-op or homeschool friends! Whether you're crafting, baking, playing games, or reflecting on the resurrection story, there are endless ways to make Easter special. Happy Easter from our homeschool family to yours!
