Multiple Intelligences
Multiple Intelligences represents different intellectual abilities and can be seen in the way which we process the information we take in. In the 1980s, Howard Gardner offered the theory of multiple intelligences rather than a singular intelligence. The intelligences include:
Verbal - Linguistic: the ability of an individual to analyze information and produce work involving oral and written language (speeches, books, emails, etc.)
Logical - Mathematical: the ability of an individual to develop equations and proofs, make calculations, and solve abstract problems
Visual - Spacial: the ability of an individual to comprehend maps, and graphical information
Musical: the ability of an individual to produce and interpret sound
Naturalistic: the ability of an individual to identify and distinguish types of plants, animals, and weather formations
Bodily - Kinesthetic: the ability of an individual to create products of solve problems using one’s own body
Interpersonal: the ability of an individual to recognize and understand other’s moods, desires, motivations, and intentions
Intrapersonal: the ability of an individual to recognize and understand the mood, desires, motivations, and intentions within themselves
The multiple intelligences should be thought of like a sound mixer. Everyone has the 8 intelligences, but the strength of each varies. Some people are stronger in Visual-Spacial and Musical, while others are stronger in Naturalistic and Interpersonal.
